Some weight loss programs along with many diets recommend a large intake of water to aid in weight loss. Drink more water, lose more weight?
Well, sort of. There are studies that show drinking water will help you to drop pounds, but how many liters of water must you consume in order to make this happen? Will you drown in your own skin? Not likely, but water does play a role in slimming down.
First of all, we all know that we feel full when we drink a glass of water. It's true that if you drink an 8-ounce glass of water before a meal, you'll probably eat a bit less. More important than just adding water to your diet is to look at where you are getting your fluids from right now.
People who replace sugary drinks (like soda and juice) with water lose an extra five pounds a year when dieting. If they increase their water intake to two more cups a day, they'll lose two more pounds a year. Simply by replacing calories with a non-calorie drink, they up their ante of weight loss.
Some benefits of drinking more water:
Water aids in digestion and nutrient absorption
Helps with waste elimination
Regulates body temperature, circulation and other bio-chemical reactions
It essentially keeps your machine running smoothly.
Any weight loss success program requires more than just a change of diet and an increased water intake. Pilates exercise is a perfect strength component to add to your program because it's low impact, easy on the joints and has important benefits. Cardiovascular exercise is also a key to losing weight. Just make sure to increase your water intake when exercising for longer periods of time.
It's recommended that you drink what you lose in normal daily bodily actions like sweating and waste elimination. This amount could be as much as 2 liters. If you are working out more to lose weight, you might need to increase your intake even more.
Remember that we don't store excess water. We get rid of what we don't use. So don't worry about drinking too much water. It's really very hard to drink too much. Replace those sugary drinks with a nice cool glass of water and you'll see and feel the benefits.
